How to use home phototherapy properly

Continuing our series of articles on home phototherapy and its application in the treatment of vitiligo and other skin diseases such as psoriasis or dermatitis, today we would like to give you some advice on how to use our home phototherapy lamp properly.

Abedul Pharmaceutical Products’ narrowband UVB home phototherapy lamp has a UV light intensity of 7 mW/cm2 and should be placed at a distance of 3 centimetres from the area to be treated.
The lamp comes with a timer to ensure accurate exposure times. It is very important to respect the exposure times and record the date, time and duration of exposure, together with any observations or comments you consider relevant. More about this in our next article.

Before starting to use phototherapy to treat vitiligo, bear in mind the following recommendations:

  • Do not use the home phototherapy lamp more than once a day
  • Do not sunbathe when undergoing phototherapy treatment
  • Protect healthy skin with a suitable sunscreen
  • Wear UVB phototherapy goggles during the phototherapy sessions (supplied with the lamp).

Remember that use of the home phototherapy lamp is not recommended for patients with xeroderma pigmentosum, severe photosensitive dermatosis, systemic lupus erythematosus or Gorlin syndrome, or for pregnant or lactating women.
